Firefox 3 Download Day two hours away

We are about two hours away from the start of Firefox Download Day, which is either an attempt to bring people of all (or at least most) nations together in an attempt to set a Guinness World Record for the most downloads in a day, or a shameless promotion of the latest version of Mozilla's web browser. Either way I will be trying to download Firefox 3 over the next twenty-four hours, assuming that their servers don't fail and that the Internet can endure the strain.

So far 1,700,069 people have pledged to download. You can click here to join them, although the web site is already showing signs of pressure.

It would be nice if the download page would load.

One comment that I've heard from those who have managed to get at that page is that they are providing a link to: FF 2.0.0.14.

Is it possible they mis timed the release date?

I feel a little guilty about being a prophet of doom.

They may have become victims of their own success. Perhaps they promoted the release a little too well.

Saying all that it looks like http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/products/firefox/ is working now.

I am going to try to download it from the European site: http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/

I'll let you all know how I get on.

I managed to get it downloaded and installed fairly quickly. Will write up my thoughts on the new Firefox after I have used it for a while.

So far I have had no problems, but then I don't see much in the way of improvements.

Watch this space.
